What To Do in Houston for Valentine’s Day

What To Do in Dallas for Valentine’s Day

Spending Valentine’s Day in Dallas gives couples lots of date-night spots and activities. Dallas features a variety of districts to explore, and with 14 Dallas-Fort Worth InTown Suites locations, you can hang your hat near it all. How To Decorate a Hotel Room for Valentine’s Day

Whether you’re flying or driving, save space in your luggage for small accents to give your room a personal touch and make your sweetheart feel special. Surprise them with a fully decorated suite this Valentine’s Day using these easy, money-saving tips:

    • Sprinkle rose petals: Opt for silk petals that are easy to pack and reuse.
    • Bubbly display: Pack a tray and your fanciest unbreakable glasses to present your champagne with a little flair (you can also use it to serve breakfast in bed).
    • Fancy pillows or throw: A festive heart-shaped or decorative pillow and an extra fuzzy throw from home can make the seating area cozy and personal.
    • Robes from home: Enjoy a spa-like feel in your suite by packing robes, slippers, or your best towels from home to instantly impart an upscale atmosphere.
    • Candy dish / vase: Whether you’re giving candy or flowers, remember to bring a dish and vase from home to spruce up your display.
    • Candles: Go for flame-free candles to set the mood and avoid fire hazards in your suite. The votive size is easy to pack and fairly inexpensive so you can fill the room with a lovely glow.
    • Music: Bring a small portable speaker to stream a romantic station or your partner’s favorite playlist.

Whether you choose one of these destinations or any of America’s most romantic cities, InTown Suites is happy to host your Valentine’s Day getaway. The weeklong reservations give you just enough time to try all of the sights and activities each area has to offer. And, getting a deal with one of our weekly offers makes our already affordable suites even more enjoyable. Happy Valentine’s Day from your friends at InTown Suites!

Leprechauns, shamrocks, and Celtic music. Before the first day of Spring, many American towns and cities will be awash in green to celebrate the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. Irish or not, it’s a fun way to usher in the upcoming season, celebrate with friends, and treat the kids to yummy green versions of everyday foods and snacks.

So break out your green attire and green food coloring as we round up some of our favorite kid-friendly treats and Irish-inspired snack ideas to celebrate St. Patty’s at home. This festive Irish holiday is the perfect excuse to treat little ones to some St. Patrick’s Day treats, and even involve them in the cooking process.

Our General Managers in Nashville, TN and Dothan, AL have also shared some of their favorite kid-friendly, green recipes to inspire your shamrock-hued treats.

Homemade Peppermint Patty Cups

Using four simple and fresh ingredients, you can create your own peppermint patties. The hardest part is waiting for them to harden in the refrigerator. Using a food processor, blend coconut, fresh mint, and coconut oil for two minutes. Melt chocolate chips. Place cupcake liners into your muffin tin. Scoop a small amount of chocolate into each cupcake liner. Then scoop the coconut mixture on top. Refrigerate for 10 minutes. Use the remaining chocolate to cover the coconut mixture. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, then enjoy!

Shamrock Pretzel Pops

**InTown Suites General Manager Pick**

A portable snack with a festive twist. Take three regular pretzels and one pretzel stick, and dip them in melted green chocolate wafers. Then place them on wax paper in the shape of a shamrock to dry. Drizzle with more chocolate on top to connect the four pretzels if needed. Decorate with sprinkles and green candies to create chocolate-ty shamrock pops!

Lucky Charms Treats

These magical Lucky Charms treats can be enjoyed no matter what time of year, but if you are making them in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, keep your eyes peeled for the St. Patrick’s Day edition of Lucky Charms filled with themed marshmallows.

  • Lucky Charms Jell-O Cups

**InTown Suites General Manager Pick**

Forget a pot of gold, these green cups are what we’re searching for. Fill a clear cup with lime-flavored gelatin and let set. Once the Jell-O is ready, add a layer of whip cream, and top with the colorful marshmallows from Lucky Charms cereal. Grab a spoon and dig into these delicious Lucky Charms Jell-O Cups.

  • Lucky Charms Cupcakes with Neon Marshmallow Frosting

    neighborfoodblog.com

These cupcakes combine Lucky Charms-infused milk with marshmallow fluff frosting to create the experience of eating your favorite cereal in cupcake form. First, let Lucky Charms soak in milk for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. After you drain the cereal, you will use this milk to make your cupcakes. The marshmallow-like frosting is created from egg whites, sugar, and cream of tartar. Use food coloring to create vibrant neon colors, just like Lucky Charms’ marshmallows. Garnish your cupcakes with dry Lucky Charms cereal.

  • Lucky Charms Rice Krispy Treats

Kids will love the St. Patrick’s Day twist on this classic homemade treat. Melt 1 stick of butter in a large pot. Add in 1/2 a teaspoon of salt and a 16oz bag of mini marshmallows. Keep stirring until the marshmallows have melted completely. Reduce the heat and add in the box of cereal. Stir gently until combined, then pour the mixture into a 9×13 pan. Don’t forget to grease your pan with cooking spray first. Gently press down the mixture until even. Cool, cut into squares, and enjoy!

  • Lucky Charms Muddy Buddies

This scrumptious and festive St. Patrick’s Day treat takes the traditional muddy buddies (or puppy chow) recipe and simply replaces the Chex cereal and milk chocolate with Lucky Charms and white chocolate. The peanut butter and powdered sugar stay the same. This recipe is no-bake and great for getting your kids involved.

St. Patrick’s Day Fudge

Using one pot and four ingredients, create a fully green treat perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. Combine sweetened condensed milk, white chocolate chips, vanilla extract, and green food coloring into a heavy saucepan. Once combined, pour the fudge mixture into a parchment paper-lined pan. Add green sprinkles for even more festive fun.

Matcha Baked Doughnuts

loveandlemons.com

Looking for a healthier treat that is naturally green? These doughnuts are infused with matcha, which is a powder made from Japanese tea leaves that are naturally green, sweet, and healthy. After baking your matcha-infused doughnuts you can decorate them with a matcha glaze, matcha cane sugar, or matcha powdered sugar.

Mint Chocolate Treats

  • Mint Chocolate Icebox Cupcakes

These no-bake cupcakes are sure to impress. First, pick a chocolate or chocolate-mint flavored cookie. (Anna’s Chocolate Mint Thins work well.) Make a peppermint flavored whipped cream using heavy cream, powdered sugar, peppermint extract, and green food coloring. Then, layer cookies and whipped cream with the top layer as whipped cream. (We recommend using three cookie layers.) Decorate the top layer with sprinkles or crushed Andes Mints. Place icebox cupcakes in the fridge for at least two hours.

    • Mint Chocolate Zebra Cheesecake

mint zebra cheesecake - a beautiful st. patrick's day treat for kids

      hostthetoast.com

Here is another delicious no-bake treat. Despite the high-end appearance of this cake, the ingredients are typical, and the recipe is simple. The crust is made from crushed mint Oreos and melted butter. The filling is created with gelatin powder, cold water, cream cheese, heavy cream, milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and mint extract. See the how-to video and full recipe here.

  • Mint Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

These cupcakes will look just like mint chocolate ice cream and taste just as amazing! After making chocolate mint cupcakes, you will create a double batch of mint buttercream frosting. Scoop the frosting onto each cupcake just like a big scoop of ice cream. No freezer is required.

  • Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies

This recipe creates soft and chewy peppermint cookies filled with green mint chips, chocolate chips, and Andes mints. The cookie dough is created with all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, an egg, and peppermint extract. Before baking, add in the chips and candies, approximately ½ cup of each. After 10 minutes in the oven, you can enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day treat.

Checkerboard Cake

sallysbakingaddiction.com

Create this show-stopping checkerboard-patterned cake by simply using a few handy kitchen tools. Use a basic vanilla cake recipe and split the batter in half before baking. Add green food coloring to one half and colorful sprinkles to the other. Bake in 9” cake pans. Here’s a great video that explains the simple secret behind this magical-looking cake.

Pistachio Pudding Rice Krispies Treats

Here’s another great St. Patrick’s Day twist on a classic. Using pistachio pudding mix and green food coloring, transform the typical homemade Rice Krispies Treats into a green-colored festive treat your kids are sure to enjoy. Top with a chocolate drizzle, because, why not? After they harden, cut, and enjoy!

Lime Sherbet Floats

**InTown Suites General Manager Pick**

The post Orlando in a Week: Tips for Theme Parks and More first appeared on InTown Suites.]]>
A trip to Orlando is a dream for so many children, families, and friends. A city known for its famous theme parks, Orlando is one of the world’s premier tourist destinations. From Walt Disney World and its four theme parks to SeaWorld, Universal Florida, and more, there’s no shortage of excitement.

There’s so much to see and do in Orlando, it can seem daunting to start planning your trip. The most important steps toward an unforgettable vacation in Orlando are research, planning, and advanced bookings. And, to help make sure you get the most out of your vacation to Orlando, we’ve put together a seven-day itinerary, complete with six important tips for visiting theme parks in Orlando to ensure you get to see the best of the best!

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL AND DISNEY SPRINGS
Welcome to Orlando! After you’re all settled into your guest room, get a taste of the magic of Orlando’s theme parks by heading to Disney Springs. Disney Springs has lots of great shopping and finding a spot for dinner will be easy (Earl of Sandwiches is a favorite of ours). Best of all, admission is free!

Pro Tip – Save on Accommodations: Enjoy even more of Orlando for less! There are plenty of accommodation options in Orlando. If you’re willing to travel a little bit, staying outside the parks can save a lot of money. Take advantage of value-add accommodations, featuring things like kitchens, free Wi-Fi, laundry services, and more. Book a room at one of InTown Suites’ extended stay accommodations, where guest rooms are set up like economy size apartments that offer everything you need for a comfortable stay. Discover our great selection of properties in North, South and Central Orlando, all with two-bed options—perfect for the family!

DAY 2 – EXPLORE DISNEY’S MAGIC KINGDOM
On your first full day in Orlando, head to the place that started it all, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom is made up of six lands including Adventureland, Tomorrowland, and Frontierland! This world of fun is home to many amazing rides, so to avoid lines, hit the most popular ones early in the morning or just before closing when the waits are at their shortest. You can also get FastPass and FastPass+ tickets to skip lines on certain popular attractions like Splash Mountain.

Pro Tip – Find The Best Ticket Options:
There are so many ticket options for Orlando theme parks; it’s worth researching your options to find the best value and flexibility for your group. For example, there’s Go Orlando Cards that offers discounted prices for dozens of off-the-beaten-track attractions including the Kennedy Space Center. Disney’s Park Hopper Option pass allows you to move freely between all four of their parks, while Disney’s Park Hopper Option Plus pass provides admission to one or more of the four main parks PLUS the option to visit the Disney’s two water parks, golf courses, and the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Universal’s Park-to-Park ticket gives you access to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure or Volcano Bay theme parks. Before you begin, have a good idea of how long your trip will be, which parks and attractions are on your must-see list, what your budget is, and how many are in your group.

DAY 3 – DIVE INTO FUN AT A WATER PARK
Chill out at one of Orlando’s water parks! If you want to hit Disney Parks, you have the options of Blizzard Beach, which has Summit Plummet, one of the world’s tallest water slides or Typhoon Lagoon, which has the largest wave pool in North America. Universal’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park offers all-out aquatic adventure for older kids and kids at heart with the thrillingly unique Krakatau Aqua Coaster canoe slide. Fancy seeing some sea life while you hit the slides? Aquatica, SeaWorld’s Waterpark lets you ride down a translucent tube slide surrounded by Commerson’s dolphins in the Dolphin Plunge. Families with little ones will love the interactive atmosphere at the LEGOLAND Water Park where kiddos can assemble their own LEGO lazy-river raft at Build-a-Raft River or tackle the smaller slides at the DUPLO Splash Safari water playground. Not big into thrills? Each water park destination offers lazy rivers just made for relaxing.

Pro Tip – Prepare for Tropical Weather:
No matter the season you visit, prepare for heat and humidity. Hats, sunscreen, and quick-drying clothes are essential to your comfort and enjoyment. Bring refillable water bottles with you to keep everyone hydrated and seek out shade when necessary. Many of Orlando’s water parks, including those at Disney and Universal Studios, offer cabana rentals that provide a great place to take a break from the heat, grab a bite to eat, and even let little ones take a quick nap to recharge.

DAY 4 – CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE
Today’s a day to relax and take a break from the craze of the theme parks. Sleep in, and then spend the day exploring what you’d like in Orlando and neighboring Kissimmee. This part of Central Florida has some great outlet shops like the Orlando International Premium Outlets and Orlando Vinelands Premium Outlets if you’re looking for a good deal on a variety of goods. Orlando is also home to many incredible golf courses, so book a tee time and hit the links. Or, hit the glades in search of gators on an airboat adventure before spending your evening bumming around one of Kissimmee’s great entertainment districts. Get a good night’s sleep because you’ll be back to enjoying the excitement of the theme parks tomorrow!

Pro Tip – Plan Your Transportation:
Be sure to look into transportation options between the parks and attractions you’re planning to visit—Disney Parks, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and much more are all less than a 30-minute drive apart, but the keyword here is DRIVE. If your hotel is outside the parks, plan to rent a car and pay for parking or grab an Uber or Lyft. There are also many shuttles services that will take you from the airport to your hotel and beyond.

DAY 5 – DISCOVER DISNEY’S EPCOT
Don’t have enough time to travel the world? Head to EPCOT instead! The World Showcase is home to 11 pavilions featuring different countries of the world, like France and Morocco. If you’re over 21, make a stop at every country to sample one of their national beverages. Think wine in Italy and saké in Japan. Later, head over to Future World to ride some of the park’s most popular attractions like Test Track and Soarin’.

Pro Tip – Plan Ahead to Avoid Crowds:
Whenever you choose to go, there are great tips for avoiding congested parks and skip the line. Even during peak season, the general rule is that weekdays are less busy than weekends, giving you and your crew the optimal combination of smaller crowds and less time spent in lines. Speaking of lines, most parks have booking systems that allow you to pre-select the time you’d like to ride a particularly busy attraction. Disney Parks offer the FastPass+ system so that you can check-available ride times and pre-schedule up to three attractions in advance, while in-park Fast-Pass kiosks allow you to book further rides. Universal Orlando also offers a similar program with their Universal Express Pass that lets you skip lines at the most popular attractions for an added daily fee. Also be sure to check out their wearable TapuTapu, which acts like a key to the park allowing you to stand in line virtually, open your locker, make cash-free payments and more.

DAY 6 – EXPERIENCE UNIVERSAL ORLANDO
Universal Studios is one of the other major parks in the Orlando area. It’s home to three theme parks: Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay. Islands of Adventure is the newer of the “dry” parks and is home to the extremely popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter, while Universal Studios Florida offers backlot fun with visits from characters like the adorable Minions and thrilling interactive stunt rides. Compared with Disney, Universal Orlando’s attractions appeal more to an older, thrill-seeking audience, from the plunging water slides at Volcano Bay to the looping coasters that Universal is known for. Speaking of which, you can’t leave without riding The Incredible Hulk—a roller coaster that goes from 0 to 40mph in only 2 seconds!

Pro Tip – Be Strategic About Mealtimes:
Instead of spending precious time waiting in lines for counter service, snack strategically! Try eating meals slightly before or after typical mealtimes and spend those saved hours enjoying the attractions. While everyone else is waiting in line for lunch, you’ll be taking advantage of shorter lines for the best rides! Also, stay hydrated to avoid thirst-induced hunger and be sure to pack filling snacks like granola bars and nuts to stave-off hangry moments. At Universal Orlando, many of the sit-down restaurants along Universal’s CityWalk, the Islands of Adventure, and Universal Studios take reservations, making planning your meals a walk in the (amusement) park! There’s no central reservation number, but most dining venues listed take bookings.

DAY 7 – PACK IT IN AND PACK IT UP
Your vacation has come to an end, and it’s time to head to the airport or drive home. However, if you haven’t quite had enough, extend your Orlando vacation by a few days with InTown Suites’ stay-over rates! After the first full week, you’ll only have to pay for the extra nights you need.

Atlanta has professional franchises for five major team sports teams, but their most successful and popular team is the undoubtedly the Atlanta Braves. Affectionately known as “The Bravos,” “The Team of the 90s,” and even “America’s Team,” as one of baseball’s most popular clubs they draw fans from across the country.

Even if you’re not a die-hard Braves or baseball fan, a trip to Atlanta really isn’t complete without taking in a game. And, their brand new home field, SunTrust Park, is a gem. It’s the newest stadium in Major League Baseball (it just opened in 2017), holds over 41,000 spectators, and it’s where fans are said to “trust” that the ball will be “hit into the sun.”

Heading to your first game? Here’s everything you need to know to have a blast in Braves Country.

GETTING THERE
Whether you’re taking public transit, an Uber, or driving, SunTrust Park is at the intersection of Highway I-75 and I-285 and conveniently within 10 miles of our InTown Suites Smyrna location, InTown Suites Sandy Springs property, and the recently renovated InTown Suites Downtown Atlanta location.

If you’re driving, it’s recommended you pre-purchase parking, and park in official SunTrust Park parking lots (parking in nearby neighborhoods is by residential permit only). Parking is only available for pre-purchase until 2.5 hours before first pitch. After this time, parking can be purchased on-site at the following lots: Red Deck, N29, E31, E35, E41, E42, E43. Tailgating is allowed in lot N29, but open container laws allow fans to mingle and walk freely throughout The Battery Atlanta, a vibrant lifestyle district adjacent to the ballpark.

From downtown Atlanta, the CobbLinc Bus 10 and MARTA Bus 12 will both get you to the Cumberland Transfer Center, where a quick, convenient transfer to the Cumberland Circulator Shuttle (either blue or green route) will bring you to The Battery Atlanta & SunTrust Park (Note that the CobbLinc 10 doesn’t run on Sundays).

Plan ahead and arrive early to make the most of your experience at the ball game.

TICKETS/SEATING
You can buy a ticket at any of the park’s five gates (1st base, 3rd base, the Chop House, right field, and left field), but popular divisional matchups and weekend games can sell out. It’s best to buy your tickets online well before a scheduled game.

There are lots of ticket options available for any budget, too, with weekday game tickets running as low as $10 or less. If the timing works, Friday home games always conclude with fireworks, and on Sundays, you can get autographs from Braves alumni players and kids (ages 4-14) can run the bases after the game!

If you want to bring your own snacks, outside food is allowed, as long as it fits in a clear, gallon-sized container. Sealed, plastic bottles of water are allowed, too (one bag and bottle per ticket holder).

FOOD/ENTERTAINMENT
SunTrust Park and the surrounding area offer world-class entertainment, culinary, and cultural experiences. The Battery Atlanta, a mixed-use lifestyle destination next to SunTrust Park, has over two dozen stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues. It’s an ideal place before or after the game to mingle with fans, do some shopping, celebrating, or wining and dining. It’s also home to some of Atlanta’s top mixologists and chefs.

Once in the ballpark, you’ll be treated to much, much more than hot dogs and peanuts! Stalls and carts throughout the park offer tasty options from states where the Braves are popular, including North Carolina (smoked whole-hog barbecue), South Carolina (pimento cheese patty melts), Tennessee (Nashville hot chicken), Mississippi (blackened catfish po’ boy tacos), and Alabama (fried tomahawk pork chops), among others. Several of Atlanta’s (and America’s) favorites are also available: Waffle House, Fox Brothers BBQ, H&F Burger, King of Pops, Chick-fil-A, and many more.

For entertainment, the list is even longer. From watching pregame parades, the exciting ATL Breakers (breakdancing team), and Tomahawk Team (The Braves’ Ambassadors), take the kids for a ride on the zip line, a climb on the rock wall, or a trip to the batting cages at Hope & Will’s Sandlot (the SunTrust Park Kids Zone). Familiarize yourself with the park on a SunTrust Park tour (tickets available at the Right Field Gate) which includes SunTrust Club, the Dugout, Press Box, Xfinity Rooftop, INFINITI Club, and more.

MUST-SEE/DO
A must-see before, during, or after the game is a trip to Monument Garden in the lower level of the park (Section 125). Here you’ll find historic displays and items that tip their cap to Atlanta Braves legends and the most iconic moments of the team’s storied history.

The Hank Aaron statue, commissioned by Atlanta-based artist Ross Rossin, is the centerpiece. See the moment of impact on Aaron’s all-time record-breaking 715th home run. It stands in front of the 755 sculpture, made of 755 Hank Aaron Louisville Slugger baseball bats. Both pay tribute to Hank “Hammer” Aaron’s remarkable Hall of Fame career, records, and home run total—now the second most of all-time. Thirty-one Braves Hall of Famers are also immortalized with plaques in Monument Garden, and above left field, you can spy 11 retired uniform numbers—the sixth most retired of all Major League Baseball teams.

Enjoy the game, and get ready to do the Braves chop with your tomahawk!

Mother’s Day is one of the loveliest—and busiest—days of the year. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it’s finally warm enough to shun those stuffy jackets. Unfortunately, this also means the card aisle has run dry, there’s not a bouquet to be found, and all the best brunch spots are fully booked.

This year bring Mother’s Day back to basics. Spend some nice family time together over a delicious spread made by none other than you. That’s right, with little more than some groceries and a basic knowledge of cookery, you can put together a fabulous Mother’s Day Brunch using some of our favorite, easy at-home recipes. So follow along for inspiration and get cracking on that brunch menu.

ICED CHOCOLACCINO
It may be warm out, but you and your guests will still need a caffeine boost. Treat everyone to a cooling iced beverage that’s part coffee and part hot chocolate and just as easy to prepare as your standard cup of joe. See this tasty recipe whipped up by the Kraft kitchen here.

CRESCENT BREAKFAST TART
Cover all your brunch bases with this ingenious recipe that combines everyone’s breakfast favorites: eggs, bacon, and buttery pastry. Store-bought crescent rolls make the ideal base for this dish that needs nothing more than a sheet pan and 30 minutes in the oven. Get ingredients details and watch a step-by-step video here.

PARMESAN HASH BROWN CUPS
Savory Potatoes transcend dinner to round out any brunch menu. And these cheesy potato cups are no exception! Bind frozen shredded hash browns with salty grated parmesan and dried herbs in a muffin tin for a quick crowd-pleasing side. Read the directions here.

CINNAMON FRENCH TOAST BITES
You want your brunch guests to enjoy a variety of their favorites, but you don’t want everyone to be stuffed—enter French toast bites! These delicious little golden cubes require no more ingredients or fuss than regular French toast, just a quick “sauté” and a fun dusting of cinnamon sugar. Learn how to refresh this classic here.

SPICY PEACH AND AVOCADO SALAD
Liven up your taste buds and Mother’s Day Brunch with a fruit salad that invites savory notes from chilies, freshly torn mint, and finely chopped shallots. An oddball combination of ingredients, be prepared to wow guests with this gastronomical delight. Bring these flavors together and check out the recipe here.

SMOKED SALMON PIZZA
Finger foods and hors-d’oeuvres are what separate brunch from breakfast. Combine a traditional brunch favorite, smoked salmon, with crème fresh and golden pizza dough for the perfect nosh. If time or supermarket selections are limited, premade flatbread pizza bases and cream cheese make excellent substitutions. Find the recipe details here.

MUG CAKE FOR MOM
Serve up a little dessert with some extra panache using this easy mug cake recipe from the kind folks at our Smyrna, Georgia extended stay property. Make it special by decorating the outside of a plain mug with permanent markers before popping your cakes in the microwave.

Ingredients:

CAKE
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon decorator sprinkles

TOPPING
Go with your gut on this one. Airy whipped cream, a scoop of your favorite ice cream, or nice glaze of frosting are all options.

Directions:

STEP 1
Place butter into 12-ounce Mother’s Day coffee mug; microwave 30-45 seconds or until melted. Add all remaining cake ingredients except sprinkles; mix well with a fork. Stir in sprinkles.

STEP 2

Wherever you are in the country, it is no secret that the distinct chill of winter has settled across even some of the southernmost cities. You want something warm and filling for dinner, but between shorter days and busy schedules, it can be hard to fit in the time get a hot dinner on the table. Enter our old, trusty friend—the slow cooker. Easy to use and even easier to clean, slow cookers offer a break from the kitchen without sacrificing nutrition, volume, or flavor. So embrace that creeping feeling of self-imposed hibernation, flick on the Crock-Pot, and curl with the family for a movie while you let these tasty dinners finish themselves.

Meatball Sliders with Tomato Sauce
Bakery fresh rolls, zesty meatballs, and slow-simmered marinara!? Sign us up! This gourmet Crock-Pot recipe can be started in the morning and finished up while helping the kids with homework or in the time it takes to squeeze a workout in. Add some steamed veggies or a mixed salad to the side and you’ll have a mid-week meal that feels like a Sunday night dinner.

Four-Ingredient Slow-Cooker Pot Roast
With just four ingredients and minimal prep, this simple yet tasty Crock-Pot recipe is music to our ears. The carbonation from your favorite beer (or dark soda for a fun twist) slowly breaks down the toughness of chuck roast, while an envelope of Italian dressing mix adds that perfect hit of acid and salt to bring this meal together. Serve on a crusty roll with sandwich fixings or toss on a plate with some roasted potatoes and green vegetables. The best part? This recipe makes tons of leftovers—perfect for lunches.

Uncle Jack’s Mac-and-Cheese
A little bit of southern comfort in the dead of winter. This classic, cafeteria-style macaroni recipe is indulgent and the perfect dish for blustery snow storms and rainy days. Toss all the ingredients in the slow-cooker and cook for four hours for the perfect, crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside slice of mac and cheese to enjoy with a side of roasted vegetables. Homestyle goodness with minimal cooking is a win-win in our books.

Meatloaf
If you put your mind to it, you can cook anything in a Crock-Pot—like this hearty, slow-cooked meatloaf. Using a few shortcuts like dry onion soup mix and shredded sharp cheddar cheese, this quick loaf comes together in a little under six hours. So head to work, run those errands, and come home to a ready to serve, crowd-pleasing main dish.

Whole 30 Creamy Taco Soup
Creamy and dairy free might seem like an oxymoron, but this filling, healthful soup is a match made in heaven. Coconut milk lends a decadent touch to this warm and savory soup that has all the flavor of tasty tacos, without the cheese or tortillas. Let the whole family enjoy dinner their own way, by offering a selection of toppings like jalapenos, green onion, cilantro, and avocado.

Slow Cooker Chicken Tortellini Soup
Cozy chicken noodle soup meets savory cheese tortellini in this ingenious recipe that offers maximum flavor with minimal effort. Store-bought tortellini and premade chicken broth elevate humble chicken noodle soup ingredients in this one-pot recipe. Simmer during the workday and toss in the tortellini 15 minutes before serving. Perfect for when the household comes down with the flu.

Slow Cooker Ramen Noodles Recipe
Remember when ramen was reserved for penny-pinching college students? Well, this homemade version discards that sodium filled seasoning packet to bring you a trendy dish more reminiscent of an authentic Japanese dining experience than a 50 cent meal made with a kettle. Let the savory broth and boneless chicken breast simmer away for three hours while you catch up on a little me time, then stir in the noodles and add toppings like soft boiled eggs, fresh cilantro or a handful of spinach for a vitamin boost.

Crockpot Lasagna Soup
All the flavor of lasagna, no baked-on mess to deal with. This wonderfully messy and meaty soup breaks the rules and encourages you to go heavy on the noodles and cheese. A great way to hide those pesky vegetables, use peppers, tomatoes, and spinach to round out this decadent meal, so there’s no need for sides or plates, just a big bowl, and your appetite.

Slow Cooker Thai Chicken Soup
Take-out taste for a fraction of the price. Curry dishes can be daunting, but this set-it and forget-it soup takes the guesswork out of homemade Asian cuisine and offers a balanced flavor reminiscent of your favorite Thai spot. Cook up a side of fragrant jasmine rice, garnish with cilantro, and call it a night.

Slow Cooker Enchilada Soup
Thick. Rich. Stick-to-the-ribs. This slow-cooker dinner ticks all the boxes when looking for a cozy, warm soup that everyone will love. With almost zero prep work, this dish will have you in and out of the kitchen in under 10 minutes. Double and freeze the recipe to pull out during those busy weeks where even time spent chopping an onion is time you don’t have. Garnish with some cheese and crunchy tortilla chips, and wait for the yums to break the silence.

Cozy and budget-friendly are what we do best. InTown Suites extended stay accommodations offer fully-equipped kitchens in all our rooms, so even when you’re away from home, you can enjoy home-cooked comforts from your very own suite.

With every New Year comes New Year’s resolutions. We all want to make a fresh start and better ourselves, but it can be hard to stick with resolution, especially if it’s too ambitious. Luckily, there are plenty of New Year’s resolutions you can make this year that are easy to keep and certain to have an impact on your life. With resolutions like the ones we’re about to share, you can make 2018 your year of small changes and big results.

Get More Sleep
Studies show that Americans aren’t getting enough sleep. A Gallup Poll conducted in 2013 revealed that the average American sleep a mere 6.8 hours a night. What’s worse, 40% of Americans are getting less than six hours a night. A lack of sleep can have an impact on your life. Not only are you less alert throughout the day, but lack of sleep is also associated with a host of health risks.

Getting a little extra sleep is easy, especially if you do it in small increments. Start by going to bed 15 minutes earlier at night, then, wake up 15 minutes later in the morning. Before you know it, you’ll have hours of extra sleep under your belt, which has been linked to increased happiness, better memory, and lower stress. So go ahead, hit that snooze button!

And with the Home by InTown Suites® Mattress, every stay with us can get that much closer to achieving your goal or restful sleep.

Make a Budget (and Stick With it)
Most people don’t like to talk about money, but that doesn’t mean it won’t impact your life. Taking time to look at your spending habits can give you a clear picture of where your money is going and help you make adjustments for a more secure financial future. Remember, your budget can change as circumstances change, and you can make adjustments on a month-to-month basis.

A budget often works best if you have a goal in mind. The goal doesn’t need to be elaborate; it can be as simple as saving 50 dollars more a month or paying down debt. With a goal in mind, it will feel like you’re making progress toward something, which is always a great feeling!

Cook More
One great way to save money in your budget is by cooking for yourself more and eating out less. And if saving money isn’t enough, it’s important to remember that cooking for yourself results in healthier meals and an opportunity to learn a new skill. Now, we don’t expect you to become a three-star Michelin Chef overnight but start small, and you’ll notice progress before you know it. Maybe commit to cooking in your kitchen two nights a week. Then, as you get comfortable, add a few new recipes. We’ve covered plenty of great meals and recipes you can add to your repertoire on the blog.

Floss
You know what they say, ignore your teeth, and they’ll go away. Flossing is a simple way to give your teeth the attention they deserve; it’s also important for keeping them healthy. Regular flossing can keep your teeth strong, which means it will be easier to eat all those home-cooked meals you’ll be making as part of your resolutions. Proper flossing shouldn’t take any more than 90 seconds and will be easy to incorporate into your routine. Best of all, you’ll never have to worry about having a piece of food stuck in your teeth ever again!

Make Time For Yourself
Perhaps the most important resolution you can make and keep this year is to make time for yourself. Schedule some time to read a book, take a relaxing bath, meditate, catch up on your favorite show, or take up a new hobby. We understand that being on the road or in between moves can make it tricky to prioritize yourself, but doing so can boost your happiness, as well as lower your stress levels, which is something we can all benefit from this time of year.

Bonus: Visit us at InTown Suites
Want to knock all of your New Year’s Resolutions out of the park at once? Visit us at InTown Suites! Ahh, fall. The leaves are turning brilliant colors, the temperature is cooling off, and the season’s harvest brings a bounty of farm fresh goodness. So how can you take advantage of autumn’s delicious offering without busting your budget? We’ve got some tips for creating simple, satisfying meals using fresh fall ingredients everyone will love.

SAVE WITH SEASONAL INGREDIENTS
There’s so much great food in season this time of year; especially hearty root veggies and nutrient-dense greens. Take your pick from cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, and cranberries—and those are just the C’s! Kale, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, and spinach are also in season, plus a ton of other veggies.

KEEP IT LOCAL
Fresh produce is often the most affordable. Check out a local farmers’ market to support local producers, or sign up for a farm share program. You’ll get fruits and veggies delivered every week, which means one less trip to the grocery store, plus it’s easy to split between family and friends. Also, most farm share programs provide free recipes to make the most of your fall haul.

ONE POT WONDERS
Now that you’re sufficiently stocked up, it’s time to meal plan! There are plenty of one-pot meals that you can easily make in your InTown Suite’s fully-equipped kitchen. Take a look at some of our top picks:

Creamy Spinach Lentils
Lentils are a cost-effective kitchen staple. This recipe combines them with carrots, onions, celery, and spinach in a creamy broth that will warm you up as winter approaches.

Crockpot Cider Beef Stew
Standard chili gets a fall twist with added pumpkin in this hearty recipe. This version is vegetarian, but you can definitely add ground beef, chicken, or turkey (it is fall after all).

Mushroom and Swiss Chard Pasta
No need to boil pasta in a separate pot. This flavorful recipe uses vegetable or chicken stock to cook the pasta along with all the other ingredients.

BUST OUT THE SLOWCOOKER
You just can’t beat coming home to a meal that’s already cooked. Here are a few slow cooker ideas for main dishes that make for great leftovers. Plus, the ease of using a crockpot means you can make these stick-to-the-ribs meal anywhere, even in your InTown Suite.

Crockpot Cider Beef Stew
Tangi R from InTown’s Nashville/Madison (YNT) Extended Stay swears by this hearty stew recipe from The Spruce. This fall classic gets an extra burst of flavor with the addition of juicy chopped apple and sweet apple cider, along with carrots, potatoes, onions, and waistline saving lean beef.

Whole Chicken
Just three ingredients combine to make delicious chicken that tastes like it roasted for hours. The liquid that’s leftover makes for awesome broth.

Cranberry Pork Loin
Don’t wait until Thanksgiving dinner to get into the cranberry sauce. This pork loin recipe is just the thing to get you excited for fall.

It can be challenging to eat well when you’re on the road and not in the comfort of your own kitchen, but our properties can help you create a taste of home life. InTown Suites’ extended stay properties offer affordable accommodations in convenient locations.
